Precious School Student Earns Top Score in Region

NSHUPU, TANZANIA, May 26, 2017. Precious Project is delighted to share that its primary school is setting the standard for excellence in education after its first full year of operation in rural Tanzania. Fourth grade students from the Precious English Medium School took the first ‘mock’ exams given to Tanzania’s fourth students this time of year. Out of 300 fourth graders from seven schools who took the exam in the Nkoaranga Ward, Precious School student and Children’s Home resident, Innocent Martin, was the top scorer. Two other Precious School students, Dorcas Charles and Benedict Frank, scored in the top ten.

Tanzania is among the lowest nations on the African continent when it comes to providing its citizens a quality education as reported by Human Rights Watch. Almost 50% of school children in Tanzania are pushed out of school annual because they fail the compulsory primary school leaving exam (PSLE) and girls fare even worse. The Precious School and its ICT for Education Initiative were founded to elevate the quality of primary education for the marginalized community of Nshupu and surrounding villages so its youngest citizens can have a better future. Precious Project’s goal is to achieve a 100% pass rate on the PSLE with at least 50% of its school students being girls.
